Saturn's Dark Side
This amazing view of the planet Saturn was captured by NASA's Cassini spacecraft as is passed behind the ringed planet. It shows Saturn's rings as they have never been seen before. With the planet blocking out the Sun, a long exposure was made in order to view faint details that would otherwise be lost in the Sun's glare. This panoramic view was assembled from 165 smaller images taken over a period of about three hours. It reveals the extremely faint outer rings that are composed of tiny, microscopic particles.
