Jupiter from Voyager 2
This full-planet view of Jupiter was acquired by the Voyager 2 spacecraft as it flew past the giant planet in 1979. Several details can be seen in the planet's cloud layers including the great red spot. This famous spot is actually a gigantic storm system similar to a hurricane on Earth. This enormous storm has been raging for hundreds of years and is over twice the size of the Earth. Other smaller storms can be seen as white spots in the cloud bands.
