Deep Sea King Crab
This image of a deep sea king crab was captured by NOAA researchers. It is one of a number of crab species that have been found in the deep ocean waters all over the world. This species is a type of king crab. It is identified by its deep pink color and the sharp spines on its body and legs. This crab has three pairs of walking legs and one pair of claws. They thrive in the colder water found in the deep sea. They are scavengers, feeding on dead animals and other scraps of food that fall from above to the ocean floor.
