Tiled Sea Star
The tiled sea star (Fromia monilis) is also known by other common names such as the necklace starfish and the marble starfish. This species is characterized by the large, pale plates that give it a mottled appearance. Its color can vary from dark red to bright orange. It is found the in the Indian and Western Pacific oceans, from the Andaman islands up to Australia and Japan. The tiled sea star lives in shallow water in rocky environment and reaches a size of 12 inches (30 centimeters) in diameter.
